1 Information We Collect

Personal Information You Provide

  • Account Information: Name, email address, phone number
  • Authentication Data: Password (stored as a secure cryptographic hash, never in plain text)
  • Payment Identifiers: Venmo username (optional, for generating payment links)

Information Generated Through Use

  • Expense Data: Descriptions, amounts, dates, and participants
  • Group Data: Group names, members, and invitations
  • Device Information: Browser type, operating system, IP address
  • Usage Data: Features used, interactions, and timestamps

2 How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Authenticate your identity and secure your account
  • Facilitate expense tracking and group management
  • Calculate and display balances and settlements
  • Send transactional emails (verification, group invitations, expense notifications)
  • Respond to your requests and support inquiries
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse

3 How We Share Your Information

✓ We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • With Group Members: Your name, email, and expense activity are visible to members of groups you join
  • Service Providers: We use Supabase for database hosting and authentication infrastructure
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets

4 Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures:

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
  • Secure password hashing (never stored in plain text)
  • Row-level security policies in our database
  • Regular security audits and updates
  • Access controls limiting data access to authorized personnel

While we strive to protect your data, no system is 100% secure. Please use a strong, unique password for your account.

5 Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. After account deletion:

  • Your personal data will be deleted within 30 days
  • Anonymized or aggregated data may be retained for analytics
  • Certain data may be retained as required by law

We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by the CPRA beyond what is necessary to provide our services.

We will verify your identity before processing your request. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.

We do not collect: Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, financial account numbers, precise geolocation, biometric data, or other sensitive categories.

7 Children's Privacy

SplitDolla is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 18, we will delete that information promptly.

8 Third-Party Services

Our Service may contain links to third-party services (e.g., Venmo). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these services. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

9 International Users

SplitDolla is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States where data protection laws may differ from your jurisdiction.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. For significant changes, we may also notify you via email.
